Yangon United F.C.
Yangon United Football Club (Burmese: ရန်ကုန် ယူနိုက်တက် ဘောလုံး အသင်း, pronounced [jàɴɡòuɴ]) is a burmese football club, based at Aung San Stadium, in Yangon, Myanmar. Owned by Tay Za, one of the most prominent burmese businessmen, the club was one of 8 teams originally participating in the first Myanmar National League in 2009. The team finished runners-up in the league's inaugural cup competition, the Myanmar National League Cup 2009.
History
Although YUFC was officially founded in 2009, it started as Air Bagan side from the old Myanmar Premier League.[3]
On 16 May 2009, Yangon United defeated Zeyashwemye FC 4–0 in the league's first ever match to open the MNL Cup 2009. The club finished second place in group play with 16 points. YUFC lost to Yadanabon FC in the final on penalty kicks after a hard fought 2–2 draw. In 2010 season, Yangon United FC has built an artificial turf football pitch and gymnasium. According to the team media officer, YUFC Gymnasium is the first Gym among the Myanmar National clubs.
